Dr. Vassilios Fanos is a professor of pediatrics at the University of Cagliari, Italy, and the Director of the Intensive Care Unit for Neonates at the University Hospital of the same city. He is a graduate of the Medical School of the University of Padova and has specialized in Pediatrics and Neonatology at the University of Verona, where he worked for two decades.

He was born on 22 August 1957 in Bologna, Italy. His medical career began in 1976. He received his MD degree in 1982, after six years of study and practice at the Medical and Surgery School of the University of Padova.

From 1981 to 1983 he specialized in the Pediatric Clinic of the University of Verona, and from 1983 to 1989, with a grant that he had won, he researched metabolic diseases and neonatology at the University of Pediatric Clinic in Verona.

Dr. Fanos also completed postgraduate programs in Pediatrics, Neonatal Pathology and Intensive Care and the Health Organization of the Verona Medical University.

From 1989 to 1994, Dr. Fanos worked as an Assistant at the Pediatric Clinic University of Verona and then from 1994 to 2003 he worked as a doctor, Senior Physician, at the Pediatric Clinic University in the same city. Since 2003 he has been the Director of the Intensive Neonatal Care Unit and the Neonatal Pathologist-Anatomical Institute at the University of Cagliari. He is also the Director of the Pediatric School of the University of Cagliari.

He is Chairman of the National Pediatric Commissions for Risk Management of the Italian Pediatric Society, Member of the Vaccine Committee, Pandemic Committee and Regional Committee of the Region of Sardinia, and the Cancer Registry.

Dr. Fanos has published more than 500 scientific papers, has written 17 books on neonatology and is a facilitator and founder of the Journal of Pediatrics and Personalized Neonatal Medicine.

He has delivered speeches at more than 300 conferences, of which 115 were international, including several lectures, while in many of them he was also President. He has been organizing more than 60 conferences and workshops, international and national, including an international seminar at the Ettore Majorana Center in Erice, two world congresses of perinatal medicine, and 10 national conferences of the Italian neonatal society. Since 2004 he is the organizer of the annual International Laboratory of Neonatology in Cagliari, Italy.

He has also written in more than 40 international scientific journals such as Lancet, PLoS One, Acta Pediatrica, Pediatric Research, Progress in Genetic Engineering, Journal of Pediatrics, American Journal of Perinatology, Neonatal Biology, Bioanalysis, Cytokines, Clinical Pharmacology Research, Clinical Chimica Acta, Critical Care Medicine, Journal of Chemotherapy, Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism, International Journal of Immunopathology and Pharmacology, Journal of Endocrinological Research, Clinic, Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal and Pediatric Biochemistry Journal.  

Dr. Fanos is an editor in the Journal of Pediatric and Neonatal Individualized Medicine and Director of the journal Pediatric and Neonatal Personalized Medicine. He is also a member of the Board of Directors in 10 journals, including the Journal of Chemotherapy, World Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Newborn Fetal Neonatal Medicine Journal, World Journal of Clinical Pediatrics, Frontiers of Pathology, Frontiers in Neonatology, Journal of Urology & Research, Austin Journal of Pediatrics.
